Clean & Well Lit: Selected Poems 1987–1995

Raworth, Tom

New York: Roof Books, 1996.

First printing. 106 pp., 8vo. Perfect-bound in printed wrappers. Very mild bump to one corner, and light edgewear, otherwise fine. Item #3831

Warmly inscribed, “with love, and thanks,” to composer and soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy and his wife, vocalist Irene Aebi. Lacy set to music texts of many poet friends (including Allen Ginsberg, Robert Creeley, Brion Gysin, and others), which he performed and recorded with Irene; in fact, the endpapers of this volume reproduce the score of Lacy's setting of Raworth's poem “Absence” (thus the “thanks” of the inscription) — which composer and poet jointly dedicate to Franco Beltrametti. In addition, Raworth has made corrections to the copyright page (the spelling of Lacy's name, among other things), to the contents page, and to the text of one poem. A terrific association.
