Cleveland, OH: Bits Press, 1978.
First printing. (32) pp., 5.75 x 8.75 inches. A Bits Chapbook. Printed letterpress and stapled into printed card covers. Cover illustration from a photoengraving (“zincograph”) reproducing a woodcut by William Blake (“for Thornton’s 1821 edition of Virgil”). Light rumpling to edges of oversized covers, and slight sunning to edges (as almost always found); poet X. J. Kennedy’s tidy ownership signature and date on endsheet; and just a touch of rust to the staples in the center (but not on the spine) — still a near fine, fresh copy of the author’s scarce third book. Item #4615
Laid into this copy is a sales receipt for the purchase of the book from a noted poetry bookdealer in 1999; on the reverse, the recipient has noted the titles of those poems that at the time were only available in this volume.
