Item #3723 Lily Pond Time-Lapse. Scott Hyde.

Lily Pond Time-Lapse

Hyde, Scott

New York: Author, n.d.

Original work. 11 x 8.5 inches (image area 8 x 5); original trichrome offset lithographic work. Title and printing information, with artist's signature, in pencil on reverse; also signed in the negative. Light age-toning to paper, minuscule corner crease, otherwise very good. Item #3723

Among his many distinctions (which include membership in the groundbreaking Association of Heliographers, and inclusion in the very first exhibition at the Witkin Gallery), Scott Hyde is one of the pioneers of alternative color photo processes, in particular experimentation on the offset press. To produce images such as this one, he would create multiple negatives (letting time pass between exposures, or shifting position); the negatives, with instructions for superimposition and ink colors, would constitute the score or recipe, and the resulting prints are all equally "originals" -- or, there simply is no original. This image was made in the late 1960s or early 1970s, from three negatives. (Other works by Scott Hyde available; please inquire.).
