New York: United Artists, 1982.
First printing thus. 80 pp., 5.75 x 8.25 inches. Full blue cloth with gilt-stamped spine, in illustrated dust-jacket; one of only twenty copies in cloth, unsigned. Covers by Louise Hamlin, and frontispiece portrait by Joe Brainard. A very fine copy, essentially unopened, in a very good jacket with some scuffing, small edge tears, and an inch-long loss to the back panel.
The smallest limitation of any edition of Berrigan's central opus. According to Aaron Fischer's annotated checklist, the twenty cloth copies were originally intended to be signed by Berrigan and Hamlin, with an additional sonnet in holograph, but due to a misunderstanding Berrigan signed only ten, leaving ten untouched, of which this is one.
