Ciardi, John. How Does a Poem Mean?

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1960. First printing. (382) pp., 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Quarter-cloth and paper over boards, in printed dust-jacket. A very good copy, essentially fine but for a slight lean to spine, in a very good jacket with light scuffing, edge wear, and one closed tear to the bottom of the rear panel. Signed by the author over his name on title page.

A classic introduction to poetry, used as a textbook for decades, which was originally published as one section of a massive collaborative volume entitled Introduction to Literature. In this first separate publication, it curiously retains the original page numbering, with the front matter numbered up to xiii, and the text from 663 to 1028. Quite uncommon signed.
